As a dance teacher, it is essential I step away from my own teaching style. It is important to be taught. Not only to learn new steps, skills and dance styles but also to remind myself of how it feels to be taught and learn something new, how it feels to walk into a new class and meet new people. I am usually happier standing in front of a group than in the group.
Last week I attended 4 new classes that I have been meaning to try for months. Jazz, Cheerleading, BellyFit and Hot Yoga.  There were obvious fitness benefits I was expecting but what I experienced was much more.
Professionally I have learnt new warm up moves, dance knowledge and dance moves to include in my own teaching but on a personal level, I have met loads of great people aged from 16-60, feel more confident about trying new classes and have discovered a world of adult dance classes. In the new year I aim to try pole fitness, ballet and ballroom!

Check out the classes I attended… maybe see you at one of them.

Warm Dru Yoga with Lara
Monday – 10am-11am at Witheys Yard, Stroud

A  gentle, flowing yoga session to get you going in the mornings. This class uses the heat to gently warm and stretch the muscles before moving into some more strengthening postures. Finish it all off with a lovely deep relaxation and pranayama to send you into your week with a sense of focus and calm. APPROX. 25 DEGREES
Loved the balance and core work. Complete relaxation and skipped out refreshed and ready for the day and week ahead!

Jazz Dance with Lina Wirths
Tuesday – 5.30pm-6.15pm at Tetbury Goods Shed, Tetbury

Jazz dance is a fun and popular dance style as seen in musicals, on television, and in the movies. This class is suitable if you are new to Jazz dance or if you want to improve your existing skills and confidence. It’s all about having fun, and getting some exercise in as well!
This is a perfect dance style and sequence for me. An upbeat, fun routine of solo steps and all the sassy trademark west end jazz moves. A workout for the mind and body in a great venue.

BellyFit with Rosie Mason
Wednesday – 8.15pm-9.15pm at Lansdown Hall in Stroud
Friday – 9.30am-10.30am at The Old Endowed School, Church Place, Rodborough
Bellyfit is a holistic fitness experience designed specifically for women. Great music and fun dance steps to lift your spirits and your heart rate inspired by Belly dance, Bollywood and African dance. Pilates inspired mat work finishes each class to build your core strength.
Bellyfit is a positive physical and mental journey in an hour. The music is timed and tailored to each class. Centering, nurturing, energising dancing and freedom. Rosie times every detail to perfection seamlessly. A real treat.

Cheerleading with LCS Cheerleading
Thursday – 8pm-9pm at Brimscombe Primary School Hall
LSC Cheerleaders was founded by Louise Sweetland, known to the squad as Coach Lou.
Louise has been dancing and performing since she was 3 years old. From Gymnastics, ballet, disco dancing, ballroom and Latin all throughout her schooling.
Louise is an inspiring, talented (and patient) teacher. In less than an hour the group were taught a new team routine which included two lifts for the finale.  A friendly, welcoming group. I enjoyed the teamwork and comradery. Looking forward to Pom Poms!!
